1 day agoA strike deadline for July 11 2022 was announced last Thursday in an effort to give the public ample notice and an opportunity to make alternative arrangements for travel. Unifor the union representing roughly 2400 VIA Rail employees initially issued a strike notice for 1201 am on July 11 but extended it to 4 pm today. Services may be suspended as of Monday If VIA Rail and Unifor do not reach a deal by 1201 am.

On Monday more than 2000 employees will join the. ET on Monday July 11 2022. From June 20 to July 1 both Unifor Council 4000 and Unifor Local 100 conducted.

Rail services will continue Monday. The strike was originally set to begin at 1201 am. A late-night statement from Via Rail says the deal which still has to be ratified by the union will be retroactive to January 1.
